Job Description
Called to Children's Ministry? Check this out.
We're looking for an Elementary Director for our grades one to four kids, and you just might be the one! We're The Meeting Place, a downtown church located in the heart of Winnipeg. And you? You're a person who senses a God-given calling to a vocation of ministering to kids and their families. You have some experience already and can articulate a philosophy of ministry to children. You love working with teams of people and take joy in recruiting others to serve alongside you. You also love hanging out with kids – that's real important!
So far, so good, right?
The Elementary Director is responsible to lead and champion our mission, vision and values in two areas: TMP Kids as a whole and Studio B in particular.
What exactly are those two areas? Glad you asked!
TMP Kids: You'll work alongside our Early Childhood Director to navigate curriculum, manage a budget, as well as equip and encourage our volunteers. You'll also become the 'face' of TMP Kids - championing it to our larger faith community at different times throughout the year. You'll also be sure our Safe Place Policies are being implemented in all of our Children's Ministry environments.
Studio B: This is our grades 1 to 4 room and you'll oversee this room exclusively. Teams of volunteers include kid leaders, a tech team and a teaching team. You'll schedule the volunteers and set up each teacher to succeed well. You'll plan the weekly program, which includes toy rotation and any crafts, games or activities as needed. You'll also send a monthly email to inform and equip our parents.
One last thing.
This position is 30 hours a week and offers some flexibility. So that's it – the ball's in your court! Please send a cover letter and resume with references to Tami at tduff:@:themeetingplace.mb.ca. We look forward to the possibility of exploring what contribution you could make to the youngest of our faith community!

HISTORY OF THE AVONGLEN GOSPEL MISSION CHURCH
Realizing the need for Christian teaching in the Avonglen district, some local farmers started the Avonglen Gospel Mission in 1945. It began as a Sunday School, then became a nondenominational church the following year. Francis Ford Sr. And his son George Ford along with Richard and Annie Schieck (Francis' daughter) were instrumental in the founding of the church. Church services were held in the Avonglen schoolhouse.
In the late 1940s and early 1950s, alternate midweek meetings were also held at the Roseberry School and the Auburndale School (north of Wainwright)
The Avonglen School closed in 1952, but church services continued there until 1954 when the Avonglen School building became part of the Albert Centralized School. Services were then held at the Roseberry School, and later, at the Passchendale School. In 1955 Sam and Joyce Eeles started the first youth group.
The Jarrow schoolhouse was purchased by the congregation on May 25, 1961, and moved to SE 2-47-8, a piece of land donated by Frank Ford Jr. A service of dedication was held in November of 1961. An addition to this building was completed in 1981.
In 1969 the church was incorporated as The Avonglen Gospel Mission.
A Nelson home package was purchased in 1973 and a parsonage was built.
After much prayer and discussion, construction of a new church building began in the spring of 2000. With God's faithful provision of finances, a many hours of volunteer labour, we enjoyed our first Sunday in a new debt-free church building on February 3, 2002. The original Jarrow School bell was installed as part of the new building. Many former pastors and members, along with community friends, celebrated with us at a reunion weekend in August that culminated with a dedication service on August 22.
As a congregation, we are very grateful to those who founded the church back in 1945. We are also thankful for each one of the pastors and their families who ministered here and gave so much of themselves for us.
