The study of history enables students to understand various movements throughout time that have shaped and formed the world in which we live. It explores the influence of culture, religion, politics, economics, and other forces, largely from the emergence of written texts to the present time.
Studies in history include inquiry into the formation of Western civilization, as well as the formation and intersections of global civilizations. Getting to know who we and our global neighbours have been and where we have come from, is critical for developing a well-informed worldview, and considering how the past shapes our future.
The study of history enables students to understand the movements, the people, places and events that shape the world in which we live.
CMU's small class size means that students have access to support and feedback from their instructors at a much greater level than many other post-secondary institutions.
Many of our grads use their history degrees as an entry into the field of education, and are employed by school divisions in North America and around the world.
The scope of the History program at CMU spans from the ancient civilizations of Egypt and Mesopotamia to the present day. The Reformation, the Renaissance, French Revolution and other time periods are all examples of eras covered.
