A practicing social worker since 1985, John has worked primarily in the non-profit and volunteer sector and along with his wife, served two years with MCC US in the 1980s and four years with MCC Brazil ending in 2001. His areas of practice include advocacy, mediation, peace and conflict work, social service management and most recently, Social Work Education. In the 1990's he went back to university and completed a Master of Social Work degree at the University of Manitoba in 1999.
John began teaching at MSC in the early 2000's as a sessional in conflict resoltuion and in 2015 began teaching a course in Restorative Justice at CMU main campus, something he continued to do until last year, when he began working with the social work program on a contract basis. He has now taken a permanent staff position with teaching responsibilities.
