Spiritual life—growing in faith and following Christ in daily life—is important at CMU. We encourage and facilitate this in a variety of ways.
Friday, January 21: Rooster Town Reconciliation in Three Stages
With Laura Forsythe, Christy Anderson, and Nicole Ternowesky
Zoom (link in the Daily)
The impact of Rooster Town's dispossession of multiple generations framed by the three stages of reconciliation will be discussed. The talk will depict the history largely erased from the space known to Winnipegers as the Grant Park Mall and Pan Am pool speaking to the civic actions taken to acknowledge, commemorate and educate in the name of reconciliation.
Laura Forsythe is a Metis scholar in the Faculty of Education who teaches Indigenous and Inner-city Education for the University of Winnipeg. Forsythe’s research contributions include numerous peer-reviewed publications, academic conference paper presentations, and the co-creation of a Michif Language program at the University of Manitoba. In addition, Forsythe’s commitment to Métis community engagement has included becoming a member of the Board of Directors of the Louis Riel Institute (LRI), a Métis Employment and Training (MET) Local Advisory Committee member, and establishing
the MMF Bison Local at the UofM.
Chapels create space for the CMU Community to worship God, to grow as disciples of Jesus Christ, and to be transformed by the Holy Spirit. Expressing our identity as a university centred in devotion to God, chapel is a time of worship that is an integral part of community life. We gather together to express our common faith in Jesus Christ through singing, contemplative prayer, hearing scripture, and sharing our stories. All students are encouraged to attend chapel and to participate with faculty and staff in the planning and delivery of the services. The CMU community meets for chapel on Tuesdays and Fridays at 11:30 AM in the Chapel (south). Contact the Spiritual Life Coordinator if you would like to get involved.
Wednesday Night Worship (WNW) is a time where students gather to express their faith through singing, prayer, and Bible study. This is a student-led worship time organized by the Faith in Life Director. WNW happens in D33 (south side) beginning at 9:30pm.
The Community Gathering slot is from 11:30 AM – 12:00 PM every day of the week and provides opportunities for the CMU Community to meet regularly. Community Gatherings at CMU also include Forums and Recitals in addition to Chapel.
Forums provide an opportunity to explore and discuss issues of significance to the CMU community and the world. Forums happen on Thursdays from 11:30 AM - 12:15 PM in the Great Hall (north).
Recitals on Wednesday from 11:30 AM – 12:00 PM provide an opportunity for students enrolled in Individual Applied Music Studies to perform, and for the community to support them in their studies.
The prayer room is located on the third floor of the north side of the campus in room C354. It is a peaceful place for students, staff, and faculty to take time out for private or small group prayer and meditation.
You can book a time here or use when available.
