Canadian Applicant Next Steps & Deadlines

Step 1:

Submit Required Documents

  • Log into your application portal to upload unofficial/interim copies of your transcripts and other required documents for admission.
  • When an admission decision is released, you can view your decision letter in your application portal.
  • Please Note: Final official transcripts are required for final admission and must be sent directly from your previous institution(s) or through MyCreds™ to CMU.
Step 2:
Accept Your Admission and Scholarship Offers
  • To accept your admission and scholarship offers, submit your reply to offer form and pay your non-refundable $200 tuition deposit through your application portal.
  • If you have been offered scholarships, your reply to offer form and tuition deposit are due May 1.
  • If you have been admitted to a business, music, science, or social work degree, you must submit your reply to offer form and pay your tuition deposit within two weeks of your program admission date to secure your spot in the program (see step three).
  • If you have been admitted to a music therapy degree, you must submit your reply to offer form and pay your tuition deposit by June 30.
Step 3:
Complete Your Program Application (Select Programs Only)
  • If you are interested in pursuing a business, music, music therapy, science, or social work degree, you must submit a program application through your application portal after you have been admitted to CMU.
  • If you are completing a music/music therapy program application, please remember to schedule your audition.
  • Please Note: There is no direct entry into music therapy or social work for high school students. To be admitted to these programs, students must first complete a certain number of university credit hours. Please contact your Admissions Counsellor for more information.
HELPFUL TIP! If you are interested in studying business, music, music therapy, science, or social work, we recommend waiting to submit your reply to offer form and pay your non-refundable $200 tuition deposit until after admission decisions for these programs are released. We start releasing program admission decisions in April.
Step 4:
Apply for CMU Scholarships and Awards
  • Applications for CMU scholarships and awards are open in January and February.
  • To be considered, submit your scholarships and awards application and any supporting documentation through your application portal before February 28.
Step 5:
Apply for On-Campus Housing
  • Starting in March, you can submit your on-campus housing application through your application portal.
  • Your housing application must be accompanied by two references and your non-refundable $100 housing deposit.
Step 6:
Log Into Your CMU Email
  • You'll receive the log in credentials for your CMU email in May.
  • Check your CMU email regularly for important information about new student orientation and the start of classes.
HELPFUL TIP! You can forward your CMU email to another email address you check regularly, so you don't miss anything!
Step 7:
Register for Classes
  • Course registration for new students opens on May 15.
  • New students are strongly encouraged to book an in-person or virtual appointment with an Advising Coordinator to register for classes.
  • Please Note: You must submit your reply to offer form and pay your non-refundable $200 tuition deposit before you can register for classes.
Step 8:
Apply for Government Student Aid and CMU Bursaries
  • Apply for provincial and federal grants, bursaries, and loans through the student aid body of your home province.
  • Government student aid applications usually open in June.
  • Once you have applied for government student aid, you can also apply for CMU bursaries.
  • The deadline to apply for CMU bursaries is July 20.
Step 9:
Submit Your Final Official Transcripts
  • Submit your final official transcripts from high school and any post-secondary institutions you have attended to the Admissions Office by August 31.
Step 10:
Register for Orientation and Submit Outstanding Forms
  • Register for new student orientation and submit any outstanding forms on your application portal by August 31.
Step 11:
Arrive on Campus!
  • Move into residence, attend new student orientation, and go to class!
  • Please arrive on campus prepared to pay your tuition and fees for the fall semester.
  • Your fall semester tuition and fees are due on September 5.
