Maintenance Technician/Grounds
Full-Time, Permanent, 1.0 Full-Time Equivalent (FTE)
As the Maintenance Technician, you support the Physical Plant Manager in maintaining the campus grounds. In this position, you are responsible for maintenance, snow clearing, grass mowing, and the applicable safety and health procedures. Working closely with the Physical Plant and Hosting departments, you coordinate campus grounds technical resources and activities.
KEY AREAS OF RESPONSIBILITY
- Support the Physical Plant Manager to ensure the campus grounds operations run smoothly and are clean, attractive, free of debris including proper care for trees, turf, shrubs and flowers, and are compliant with pesticide regulations.
- Responsible for the mowing and trimming of the grounds.
- Responsible for snow clearing operations to ensure safe access for the University community.
- Ensure all outside equipment is well maintained including oil checks/changes, lube, and sharpening blades.
- Familiar with Workplace Safety & Health regulations to support the compliance efforts of the Workplace Safety and Health Committee.
- Participate in general maintenance when needed.
- Operate, train, and support student employees on effective use of maintenance equipment.
- Assist the Hosting Department to perform event set-ups/takedowns and moving of furniture, as required.
- Participate in the on-call rotation with other Maintenance staff.
- Other relevant job-related duties as assigned.
WORKING CONDITIONS
This position works in a fast-paced dynamic environment that encompasses indoor and outdoor physical activity, working in hot and cold environments, The Maintenance Technician/Grounds is required to perform tasks that involve moving, bending, walking, standing, and lifting heavy objects of up to 100lbs. This position works with various equipment and chemicals and must follow health and safety protocols to ensure a safe working environment. This position will experience frequent interruptions, requiring flexibility, shifting priorities, and the occasional need to respond to issues outside of normal office hours.

- 5th Class Power Engineer Certificate or ability to qualify.
- One (1) year experience working in a Maintenance/Grounds environment.
- Demonstrated working experience in driving tractors and ATV’s.

- Sound problem-solving skills and initiative for continuous learning.
