The Estamos program at CMU will be closed as of May 2025.

Since Fall 2022, CMU has been pleased to provide affordable and innovative intercultural learning opportunities through Estamos, its learning abroad program. Over the span of three academic years, 55 undergraduate students have participated; learning through thinking and doing while encountering new places, people, and ideas.

For three successive years, a group of Estamos students has spent the Fall semester immersed in the culture, history, society, and language of Guatemala. Throughout that time, CMU students were graciously welcomed into the homes of 31 different host families and completed work-integrated learning/practicum placements at eight different local organizations.

Additionally, through short-term intensive Estamos courses, students have travelled with CMU faculty to study: tropical development and conservation in Panama, social and theological models of multiculturalisms in India, and peacebuilding in conflicted contexts in Colombia.

We are grateful for the essential funding provided by Global Skills Opportunity, the Government of Canada's Outbound Student Mobility Pilot Program which made these well-supported opportunities accessible to students

Most of all, we are grateful for the local partners and host organizations who have collaborated with us to build successful programming through which CMU students have discovered educational, vocational, and personal growth.
