Verna has been key to the establishment of CMU's innovative approach to collaborative musical performance. She has a passion for equipping students with practical skills for music making in the real world. Her emphasis in performance coaching is to help students capture the full expressive spirit of the music and develop the discipline of collaboration. In her leadership of handbell ensembles at CMU, Verna has brought undeniable sparkle to numerous public programs.
As Director of CMU's Community School of Music and the Arts, Verna has overseen the expansion of the program to encompass both traditional instrumental and vocal music lessons, acting and musical theatre, as well as offerings in home school programming and music therapy services.
Verna is well known in the Winnipeg community for her fine work as a collaborative artist with singers, instrumentalists, and choirs. Verna is the pianist for the Winnipeg Singers, and has performed together with the Winnipeg Philharmonic, Mennonite Festival Chorus, and Pembina Trails Voices.
Verna is active in leading worship music at Charleswood Mennonite Church. She and her husband Bob have three grown children.
